LEATHER HANDBAG CARE TIPS:
Cleaning Your Leather Handbag
- Regular Dusting - Use a soft, dry cloth to gently wipe your handbag. Regular dusting prevents dirt from building up and embedding into the leather.
- Spot Cleaning - For small stains, use a clean, damp cloth. Avoid using excessive water as it can damage the leather. Blot the stain gently instead of rubbing it, which can spread the stain and damage the leather surface.
- Mild Soap Solution - Mix a small amount of mild soap (like baby soap) with lukewarm water. Dampen a soft cloth with the soapy water, wring out excess moisture, and gently wipe the handbag. Use a second cloth dampened with clean water to remove any soap residue. Pat the leather dry with a clean towel and let it air dry completely away from direct sunlight or heat sources.
Conditioning Your Leather Handbag
- Select a Quality Leather Conditioner and Patch Test - Choose a conditioner specifically designed for leather. Conditioners help to moisturize, enhance the appearance, and add a layer of protection that can help shield from water, stains, and dirt. Before applying conditioner to the entire handbag, test it on a small, inconspicuous area to ensure it doesn’t discolor or damage the leather.
- Application – Refer to the products instructions for best results.
- Regular Conditioning - Condition your leather handbag every 6 to 12 months, depending on how often you use it and the climate you live in. Frequent conditioning helps keep the leather supple and prevents cracking.
Additional Tips
- Storage - Store your leather handbag in a cool, dry place. Avoid direct sunlight and humid environments which can cause the leather to fade or mold. Stuff the handbag with tissue paper to help maintain its shape. Use a dust bag for extra protection.
- Avoid Overloading - Avoid overloading your handbag as excessive weight can stretch and distort the leather. This can also put strain on the handles and seams, leading to premature wear and tear.
- Handling Scratches - Minor scratches can often be minimized by gently rubbing the area with your finger or a soft cloth. The natural oils in your skin can help to blend the scratch into the surrounding leather. For deeper scratches, a leather repair kit or professional service may be required.
FABRIC HANDBAG CARE TIPS:
1. All fabric portions of the bag can be treated with Scotchguard Fabric Protector to aid in repelling liquids and blocking stains. We suggest treating every 6-8 weeks to continue protection. When spraying the fabric, be sure to cover any leather accents on the bag.
2. Keep your bag free of dust and gently wipe (as needed) with a damp cloth to keep clean. If there is a stain, blot it with a damp cloth immediately to ensure the stain doesn't penetrate and use a mild cleanser/detergent to remove it and allow the bag to air dry.
3. It's best not to hang your handbag. It causes added pressure and wear to the straps and hardware that attaches the straps to the bag. Store by either laying flat or standing your bag in a cool dry area with the strap stored inside. To help retain the shape, add paper, plastic or even a large towel inside while storing. For added protection, you can also store your bag in a cotton dust bag.
CLOTHING CARE TIPS:
1. Dry cleaning is suggested for all clothing. Each of our clothing items are handmade or upcycled using a combination of cotton fabrics, leather, vintage denim and other textiles. Considering this combination of materials, it is not recommend to machine wash.
2. When necessary, spot clean by using with a wet white towel and mild detergent or spot cleaner and lay piece flat to dry.
